Begin your day with a convenient morning pickup from your hotel in Izmir, followed by a scenic drive to the ancient city of Pergamon (modern-day Bergama). Situated approximately 25 kilometers from the Aegean Sea, Pergamon was a significant cultural and political center in ancient Anatolia.
Upon arrival, explore the impressive Pergamon Acropolis, perched on a conical hill 350 meters above the surrounding valley. Discover key highlights such as the famed Library of Pergamon, renowned in the ancient world for its vast collection of manuscripts, and the steepest ancient theater in Turkey, offering spectacular views over the valley.
You will also visit the main palace, the Altar of Zeus, and the Propylon of the Temple of Athena — all important landmarks that showcase Pergamon’s rich Hellenistic and Roman heritage. Learn about Pergamon’s role as a major center of early Christianity, one of the Seven Churches of Revelation, and its connection to Galen, the influential physician who shaped European medicine for centuries.
After the cultural tour, enjoy a visit to a traditional onyx and jewelry shop, where you can browse authentic Turkish crafts and souvenirs.
