Despite the fact that the city is in ruins, historians and archaeologists believe it was one of the most important religious cities in Lycia. The settlement is located on hills, and according to mythology, Bellerophon lived in Tlos with his flying horse Pegasus. He has a kingly tomb in the necropolis, dedicated by the citizens of Lycia.
