Itinerary

In the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel or our tour meeting point and will depart for Diyarbakir city tour. During the tour we will see Diyarbakir City Walls, which are famous for being the longest wall after the Great Wall. The walls are 5.5 km long and 7-8 m high. These walls, which are the magnificent examples of medieval military architecture, are decorated with inscriptions and reliefs. The construction date of the city walls, which was renewed by the order of Byzantine Emperor Costantine in 349, is not fully known. Next we will visit the the ancient city of Cayonu, located in the Ergani district on the Elazig highway 65 km northwest of Diyarbakir, which dates back to the polished stone age, about 9000 years ago. It was determined that this settlement was one of the first settled places. After that we will visit the Great Mosque. It is known as the fifth Harem-i Şerif in the Islamic world. After the conquest of Diyarbakir by the Islamic armies, the largest Christian temple in the province, the Mar-Tama church, was converted into a mosque in 639. It was repaired in 1091 during the time of the Great Selcuk Sultan Meliksah. This first Islamic structure, which has great value in terms of the fountain in its courtyard and the inscriptions from various periods, was built with black stones. Our next stop will be Behram Pasha Mosque, the mosque built by 13th Ottoman Governor Behram Pasha, is one of the most beautiful examples of Ottoman architecture. The very ornate pulpit of the mosque is a marvel of art. After that we will visit Sheikh Matar Mosque. The four-legged minaret and mosque are works of Akkoyunlu and were built in 1500 by Sultan Kasım. The minaret was built on a monolithic stone column with four corners. The use of fired wood on the columns is also a feature of the minaret. According to one belief, if one passed through the columns seven times his/her wish was accepted. After the tour drop back to your hotel or our tour meeting point. We hope your tour was a memorable one and we look forward to seeing you in the future on another TravelShop Booking Tour. Have a safe trip back home and thanks for choosing TravelShop Booking.
