• Göreme Open-Air Museum: A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Göreme Open-Air Museum is one of the most important attractions in Cappadocia. The museum features a collection of rock-cut churches, chapels, and monasteries that date back to the 10th century. The frescoes and cave paintings inside these churches are some of the best-preserved examples of Byzantine art in the world.
• Fairy Chimneys & Pasabag Valley (Monk’s Valley): The Fairy Chimneys are the most iconic natural formations in Cappadocia, created by centuries of volcanic eruptions and erosion. At Pasabag Valley, also known as Monk’s Valley, you’ll see these peculiar, conical rock formations up close, some of which have multiple “hats” or tops. This is one of the most photographed sites in the region.
• Devrent Valley (Imagination Valley): Known for its whimsical, animal-shaped rock formations, Devrent Valley is a place where your imagination can run wild. The surreal landscape is full of rocks that resemble camels, snakes, and other animals, making it a fun and creative stop on your tour.
• Uchisar Castle: Located at the highest point in Cappadocia, Uchisar Castle offers sweeping panoramic views of the entire region. This ancient fortress, carved into the rock, served as a strategic lookout point throughout history. Climb to the top for a breathtaking view of the surrounding valleys, fairy chimneys, and the distant Erciyes Mountain.
• Kaymakli Underground City: Cappadocia is home to a number of underground cities that were carved out of soft volcanic rock by early Christian inhabitants to protect themselves from invaders. Kaymakli Underground City is one of the largest and most well-preserved. You'll explore its narrow corridors, hidden rooms, ventilation shafts, and wine cellars, learning about how people once lived underground for months at a time.
• Avanos Village: Known for its pottery-making tradition, Avanos is a charming town located along the Kızılırmak River. Here, you’ll have the chance to see artisans at work and, if you're interested, even try your hand at making your own pottery. The village is also known for its quaint streets, colorful houses, and peaceful atmosphere.
• Sunset Point or Red Valley (Optional): End your day with a visit to either Sunset Point or Red Valley for a stunning sunset view. Both locations offer dramatic views of Cappadocia’s unique landscape, with the changing colors of the rock formations during sunset creating a mesmerizing scene.
