Welcome
to Turkey! The Kackar-Kavron summit, at an altitude of 3937 meters (12,933
feet), is the highest point in the Kackar Mountain range. Extensive glacier and
water erosion have given these mountains their craggy, rugged look. The wildest
part of northeastern Turkey, Kackar Mountains are known for the complexity and
power of the streams and rivers which rush down to the lower altitudes. All
shades of green and blue, literally hundreds of glacier lakes, immensely rich
flower meadows and wildlife surprise those who imagine the country to be
nothing but barren steppes. This tour is ideal for those who enjoy intensive
trekking.
The
Kackars rise in between the shores of the Black Sea to the North, and the River
Coruh valley to the south. On the northern flank, a wide variety of wildflowers
grow in the rainy climate. Much of the area is cultivated by the local people
who grow tea, citrus orchards, fruits and grape vines.
Much of the area is a protected national park and has an extensive collection of native flora and fauna including local bears, mountain goats and many species of birds. The area is also frequented by many bird watchers.

Upon arrival at the airport in Erzurum, meet with our team and transfer to Yusufeli County's Barhal (Altiparmak) Village. Here you will have dinner with your fellow trekkers and meet your guide. Dinner and overnight at a pension in Yusufeli.

After breakfast, we will depart for our walk from Barhal to Yaylalar village at the foothills of Mount Kackar. The area is known for its beautiful streams, flora, and fauna. In the afternoon, do a warm-up trek in Korahmet Valley, where the Bulut Mountains dominate the view ahead. There is an opportunity to meet with the local villagers. Tonight we will stay overnight in Yaylalar, but you can choose to stay at the pension or you can camp on the hills at an average altitude of 3000 m.

After breakfast, we will depart to Modut Valley, one of the best treks in the Kackar Mountains. This trek is not very challenging, but the scenery makes you feel glad to be in Kackar. Return to Yaylalar Village. Dinner and overnight at the pension.

Today we trek up to Dilberduzu via high mountain pastures, following the stream that comes from the glaciers. During the trekking, we may encounter the villagers that live here during the summer to graze their flocks. Dilberduzu campsite (2900m) is a flat meadow by the stream surrounded by steep hills. Overnight will take place in Dilberduzu as camping.

Today we will ascend the Kachkar summit (3917 m). This takes around 5-6 hours and involves easy walking on snow but very little actual climbing. After breakfast, we have an early departure for Mount Kackar. The view from the summit above the clouds is simply stunning, with views over the whole Kackar range and beyond the Caucasus. On a clear day, you may even have a chance to see the legendary Mount Ararat. After a short break on the peak, return to our Dilberduzu campsite. If you do not wish to participate in the summit ascent, there are many day trips that you can do instead. There are many stunning lakes in the area that offer swimming opportunities to consider. Overnight camp at Dilberduzu.

Today we will trek back down to Barhal Yaylalar (Altiparmak) Village before transferring to Yusufeli. The delicious local cuisine and a hot shower await you. Dinner and overnight at pension in Yusufeli.

Visit Barhal and Oshk Venk Churches before you tour finishes. After tour, transfer to Erzurum Airport for departure.
