Tour overview

A 10-day odyssey from Istanbul into Turkey’s eastern frontiers and the lush Black Sea hills. After a domestic flight to Gaziantep for its archaeology museum and famed mosaics, you’ll journey to Adıyaman for a sunrise atop Mt. Nemrut’s ancient statues, then explore Urfa’s sacred fish pools, Göbekli Tepe and the beehive houses of Harran. Next, wander the Arabic-stone lanes of Mardin before marveling at Diyarbakır’s basalt walls, then cross to Lake Van for Akdamar Island’s 10th-century cathedral and Hosap Castle. Onward to Dogubeyazıt for Mount Ararat panoramas and the palatial Ishak Paşa complex, then to Kars for the medieval ruins of Ani. Finally, unwind in Ayder’s tea-terraced valleys and cap your trip with Trabzon’s Byzantine Hagia Sophia, Atatürk’s mansion and the cliffside Sumela Monastery, before flying home.
