Tour overview

Get ready for an exhilarating 3-day safari that takes you deep into the heart of Tsavo West and Tsavo East National Parks, two of Kenya's most famous wildlife reserves. Located just a few hours’ drive from Nairobi, this safari offers a quick yet immersive experience of Kenya’s incredible landscapes and diverse wildlife. Tsavo is one of the largest and oldest national parks in Kenya, home to a wide variety of animals, including the famous red elephants, as well as lions, leopards, giraffes, buffaloes, and rhinos.

Highlights

  • Tsavo West: Known for its dramatic landscapes, including Mzima Springs, volcanic hills, and wildlife-rich savannah. Home to a variety of animals like elephants, lions, buffaloes, and rhinos.
  • Tsavo East: Famous for its vast open plains and huge herds of elephants, as well as lions, cheetahs, and the iconic red-dusted elephants. Tsavo East is known for its unique wildlife and abundant birdlife.
  • Mzima Springs: A refreshing stop in Tsavo West where you can view hippos and crocodiles in crystal-clear water.
  • Red Elephants: Tsavo’s elephants are famous for their reddish-brown appearance, caused by the iron-rich dust they bathe in.

  • Vaccinations and Health Precautions: A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for entry into both Kenya and Tanzania, so be sure to get vaccinated if you haven't already. Anti-malarial medication is also highly recommended, as both countries have areas with malaria-carrying mosquitoes.

  • Packing Essentials: Prepare for a range of temperatures by packing lightweight clothing, layers for cool mornings and evenings, a wide-brimmed hat, and comfortable walking shoes for game drives. Don’t forget binoculars, which make a big difference for spotting wildlife in the distance.

  • Cash and Currency: While credit cards are accepted in some areas, it’s best to have cash for smaller purchases and tips. Both Kenya and Tanzania accept U.S. dollars, but be sure the bills are from 2011 or later, as older ones are often not accepted.

  • Local Customs and Etiquette: Respect local customs by asking permission before photographing the Maasai or other local people. Dress modestly, especially when visiting villages or interacting with the local community, to show respect for cultural norms.
