Here is a great adventure to a less crowded and more isolated region of the Himalayas. The Manaslu Circuit trek via Larkya La Pass is a high altitude trek profuse in natural beauty, Tibetan culture and superb panoramic scenes of the iconic Mt Manaslu (8163m & world’s 8th highest mountain).
The 16 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek opened in 1992 and has since become one of the most popular treks in the Himalayas in the region bordering Tibet. However, only 2% of trekkers visit this region, thus ensuring peace and tranquility. The remote location and predominantly Tibetan Buddhist influence makes this a spiritual journey and will introduce you to a tranquil and peaceful region. The rich culture and beautiful rhododendron, cedar, birch and juniper forests enhance the senses as you follow trails through the mountains.
Circumnavigating this giant mountain (Manaslu) exposes you to various landscapes, such as deep gorges, raging rivers, giant massifs with the Annapurna ranges in the west and Ganesh Himal in the east. This trek is physically hard going but with time allocated to acclimatization we will be prepared before we head to higher altitudes. The trail takes us through the Budhi Gandaki River valley with waterfalls cascading from the steep cliffs above.
The Manaslu Circuit Trek begins with a drive from Kathmandu to Soti Khola via Arughat. The next day we head to Machha Khola passing through scented forests, alongside lush terraced farmlands and across suspension bridges. Our first stop is the village of Deng where we have our first mountain views in this region, and then we head to Namrung Village where we have even better views of the enormous vertical face of Ganesh Himal (7422m) and Mt. Himalchuli (7893m). Further down the trail we come to highest village on our trek, Samagaun Village. It is here that we spend time acclimatizing in order to prepare ourselves to trekking at higher altitudes. The next day we head off to Samdo and Dharamsala where again we can see Larkya Glacier and the Larkya Peak (6249m). The hardest day of this trek is crossing Larkya La Pass (5106m), located between Dharamsala and Bhimthang. We then descend to Bhimthang and a little further on to Gho. The last leg of this trek takes us to Dharapani and then connects with the trail back to Besisahar then back to Kathmandu.
The difficult Manaslu Circuit trek is rich in natural beauty and will give you an insight into Buddhism and Hinduism and how they co-exist in these far-flung regions. The alternatives to this trek are: 12 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek, 23 Days Tsum Valley and Manaslu Circuit Trek or the 16 Days Tsum Valley Trek.
Sherpa Expedition Teams will arrange permits and take care of all meals and accommodation on the trek.
