A 14-day trek to Everest Base Camp will take you to the starting point of one of the greatest feats in history, the climbing of Mt. Everest. This is where it all began with New Zealander Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay of Nepal planned their assault on the world’s highest mountain, Mt. Everest (8848m). Your journey begins and ends in Kathmandu and takes you through numerous Sherpa Villages rich in Tibetan Buddhism, through deep gorges and dense forest before reaching Everest Base Camp (EBC).
All accommodation, meals, and transport (including flights) are included in the cost of the trek. Sherpa Expedition & Trekking expert guides are government certified and will take care of every detail of the trek. A trek to EBC is a must do for anyone visiting Nepal, with many saying it was the highlight of their trip and best experience of their live.
Following in the footsteps of great explorers will make you wonder just how Hillary & Norgay ever reached the summit nearly 70 years ago – a time when only rudimentary equipment existed and without the high-tech devices, we today take for granted. Along the trek, you will get a close-up taste of the life of the Sherpas who live in the Himalayan mountains, hear their enchanting Buddhist prayers, see their unique architecture, monasteries (Gompa in Tibetan), multi-colored prayer flags and colorful clothing. Without the Sherpas, mountaineering would take a backward step. Their skills and stamina are respected worldwide. They know their mountains and can read the weather as well as modern weather forecasters.
Looking skyward to the summit of Everest (Sagamartha in Nepali) is a dizzying experience and will leave you gob-smacked and in awe of its beauty – and its potential danger too. You will traverse through gorges and across mountains to reach EBC. You will spend time acclimatizing before heading to higher elevations. Observing the villagers in the Solu Khumbu region will make you sit back and contemplate on your own existence. They live a tranquil and peaceful existence in these remote regions.
Prior to reaching EBC you will be stunned at the amazing white-capped peaks that surround you – so close you feel you can reach out and touch them! You will forever be looking skyward and feel dwarfed by the absolute enormity of these Himalayan peaks. In fact, four of the world’s tallest peaks are in this region.
Flying in and out of Lukla will give you a birds-eye perspective of the vastness of the Himalayas –
